Our little buddy turned one year old November 28. Becca had planed a really fun monster party for some of the little kiddos, but everybody got really sick so we had to cancel. Instead we had some chocolate cupcakes. Little buddy doesn't really like sweets so he tried a little, and then kept handing it to us to eat.<br />

During Christmas he got his first haircut to get it out of his eyes. We couldn't believe how grown up our little boy looked.<br />

After christmas Becca's mom got married on the 27th. We haven't gotten much snow this winter. When it does snow we try to get up to the mountains to enjoy a snow hike. We went with Becca's sister Bitsy who is living with us now, and a few friends.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's been fun having Becca's sister with us, and has been a big help while Becca is still taking classes. The last two weeks our little buddy has started walking more, and more. It has been fun watching him explore the world more. He also chats a lot trying to figure out how to communicate with us. He can say DADA, and he loves to dance. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We also have decided to take one epic trip this summer. We bought tickets for Taiwan. We are going in May. We are all excited to return to my mission, and see some of the beauties of Taiwan. We are taking little buddy with us, we are a little worried about the 14 hour flight to Taiwan. Becca has been reading a lot of international family travel blogs to prep. Little buddy is a really curious happy kid so we hope all things will go well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Becca will be finished with this semester at the end of April, and then finish her associates in the fall. She is still trying to figure out her major so she has decided to take a little break after fall to figure things out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got a promotion at work, and now create tests to be used in quality control. I really like my new position. It's more concentrating on one thing at a time, and less working with a bunch of different batches of products at one time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We look forward to all the spring and summer adventures we are going to have. </div>

It kind of snuck up on us. One day we are going to the pool. Two weeks later the apple trees are dropping fruit and the mountains have fall colors. This summer was full of fun times. Daniel ran the Wasatch back Ragnar the weekend before the fourth of July. We got to visit all the family except David(who is on his mission still). We had our family pictures taken.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had a big hike day with almost all the kiddos to a lake where we went fishing. The kiddos did awesome and we loved hearing them grown when they said, "How much longer?" and Uncle Edwin would respond,"10 more Idaho minutes" which I learned was actually about 20 normal minutes. :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A good amount of our weekends we get to play games with our friend Kenny. Gordon likes to put in his opinion on who should play what.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ayIYVnf5rCU/VBZpSb8RHMI/AAAAAAAADLs/ndyspQyoy5g/s1600/2014-08-03_18-59-50_107.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ayIYVnf5rCU/VBZpSb8RHMI/AAAAAAAADLs/ndyspQyoy5g/s1600/2014-08-03_18-59-50_107.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Gordon has learned to crawl now and he also pulls himself up to stand anywhere he feels like it. He loves to cruz around the house so we set up the sofa and the table in the living room so he can walk around holding on. He also has gotten both his bottom baby teeth. We went to the Utah State Fair this weekend. Gordon loved hearing the goats talk to him. He would laugh super hard when ever he heard them. Here he is crawling when we play hide and seek.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/WKZAWYJkgIo?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are all doing really well. Daniel still enjoys his job at Actavis(used to be Watson) Pharmaceuticals. Gordon likes crawling, wrestling, and being outside. His favorite show right now is Royal Pains. He likes to dance to the intro and will stop what ever he is doing to crawl to the T.V. and dance. I have started my classes this fall and am doing really well trying to juggle baby, husband, and home with school. Hope this fall is full of fun! Love you all!</div>

<br />Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-74457959467522635342014-06-08T21:32:00.002-06:002014-06-08T21:50:37.434-06:00Adventures Wow, it has been a long time since we have posted! Let's see what has been going on. We go on weekend hikes all the time. Unless Baby G has kept us up a lot of the week, then we take lots of naps during the weekend, and do chores. Baby G loves to hike. He loves the wind in his hair and looking around at everything.<br />
<br />
On the easier hikes he relaxes in his stroller just like this picture below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-19NE6I_jRHQ/U5UfdGP4zbI/AAAAAAAADGk/AYTHWUiRnkk/s1600/2014-05-03_15-39-53_132.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-19NE6I_jRHQ/U5UfdGP4zbI/AAAAAAAADGk/AYTHWUiRnkk/s1600/2014-05-03_15-39-53_132.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
On the more difficult unpaved hikes we strap him into his carrier. Mom or Dad will be his mountain goat like this picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SrFec1m6W1E/U5Uf7JcvcvI/AAAAAAAADGs/XsHlshj542k/s1600/IMG_4839.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SrFec1m6W1E/U5Uf7JcvcvI/AAAAAAAADGs/XsHlshj542k/s1600/IMG_4839.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
On Mothers Day weekend we went up to Idaho to visit our families. It was wonderful! On the way up we visited Grandpa Eugene and Grandma Arley. Baby G sat on Grandpa's lap and just chatted to him for a good ten minutes. Here is a picture of the two.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9_FeAJt41aM/U5UgzS30jqI/AAAAAAAADG4/-L783m0UNUI/s1600/2014-05-09_14-11-02_937.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9_FeAJt41aM/U5UgzS30jqI/AAAAAAAADG4/-L783m0UNUI/s1600/2014-05-09_14-11-02_937.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Grandpa and Baby G.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When we went up to Idaho Becca was able to take a four generation photo. It was really neat because Becca had never spent a Mothers Day with her Grandma Barb before.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a picture of all of them on the couch at Becca's mom's house.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z_8bLWw-gb4/U5UhcsmughI/AAAAAAAADHA/5eleamJ-g2Q/s1600/IMG_4890.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z_8bLWw-gb4/U5UhcsmughI/AAAAAAAADHA/5eleamJ-g2Q/s1600/IMG_4890.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Baby G loves his Grammie. We were at Grandma Barb's apartment when Baby G and Grammie tried to sneak off back to Grammie's house. No one even noticed he just kept chatting happily to her, and didn't protest at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next our adventures took us to Wyoming and Colorado during Memorial day weekend. We had fun visiting Edwin, Jen, and all the nieces and nephews in Wyoming. We got to go to The Sinks. Which is a part of a river that flows under ground at one point comes up at another, and then flows back down under the mountain again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a picture that helps to explain a little. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Hv0TW9IEXFo/U5Ui4VIgydI/AAAAAAAADHM/yREHaCWfQLY/s1600/IMG_4925.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Hv0TW9IEXFo/U5Ui4VIgydI/AAAAAAAADHM/yREHaCWfQLY/s1600/IMG_4925.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another neat piece of knowledge is that this river flows south to north not north to south like most others. In this photo the water is flowing from the right, and going under the limestone to the left.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Daniel and Edwin also went on a beautiful hike while we visited. Becca and Jen stayed home with the kids playing games. When Edwin and Daniel came home we noticed some scratches on Daniel. Apparently in his glee to be hiking with his brother he had run ahead a little ways. When he turned around to see how Edwin was doing he tripped on a rock, and super manned into the dirt. He was pretty scuffed up. A few days later the top of his left foot bruised and swelled up. It still didn't deter this mountain man, but I think he learned his lesson. Don't run and not look where your going.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We finally made it to Colorado and enjoyed our time with all the family there. Daniel got to go on a hike with Dad, Ben, and Rohan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a picture of them at the top of Horsetooth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pnMTGDwrMaw/U5UkM4JyEaI/AAAAAAAADHg/aDUpZBNZbZA/s1600/IMG_4967.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pnMTGDwrMaw/U5UkM4JyEaI/AAAAAAAADHg/aDUpZBNZbZA/s1600/IMG_4967.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We also were able to visit with Kevin, Leonora and their girls. Baby Clara, who is 3 months old, is adorable. We all went to the Raptors Sanctuary on Memorial day, except Dad and Mom, they started heading back to Idaho. Here is a picture of a bald eagle that was wounded and stays at the sanctuary as an ambassador for the wild life park.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bbkPjuablP0/U5Uk_tL1WhI/AAAAAAAADHo/Y-KTt8IkJJw/s1600/IMG_4980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bbkPjuablP0/U5Uk_tL1WhI/AAAAAAAADHo/Y-KTt8IkJJw/s1600/IMG_4980.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a picture of the bald eagle checking out Daniel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FDy7tyCVMoA/U5UlSlRH4KI/AAAAAAAADHw/aCarjr067OY/s1600/IMG_4986.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FDy7tyCVMoA/U5UlSlRH4KI/AAAAAAAADHw/aCarjr067OY/s1600/IMG_4986.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Daniel didn't look good enough to eat so we were all able to get home safe and sound. Sadly we had to go home to Utah, but we had lots of fun! Thank you to all the family who put up with us for our vacation. We enjoyed it a lot and loved being able to introduce Baby G to more of his family. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This weekend we were able to celebrate a big achievement of a friend of ours. Rudy, is an old roommates of Daniel's, and Daniel was able to ordain him to the priesthood as an Elder in our church. Which means he can now have some pretty amazing opportunities to serve more in the church. Here is a picture after a little lunch we had at Rudy's place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e-EhGaUGL-8/U5Uni20v-wI/AAAAAAAADH8/FiuLC1p9gVA/s1600/10423998_10202164017050899_189271857_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e-EhGaUGL-8/U5Uni20v-wI/AAAAAAAADH8/FiuLC1p9gVA/s1600/10423998_10202164017050899_189271857_o.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are really proud of Rudy and all of his hard work. He has been a great example to us of being diligent with growing our testimonies of Jesus Christ. Congratulations Rudy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hopefully we will keep the blog more current, but we love all of you. Next adventure is a Ragnar for Daniel with some of his family members, and some of his Stucki relatives, and celebrating the fourth of July in Idaho with even more family members to meet. Have a great summer everyone!</div>

In August we moved from our first cute little duplex up to Salt Lake City. We really like that I have a lot shorter of a commute to work, and that I have two extra hours in my day now.<br />
<br />
Becca and I spent our first thanksgiving as a married couple in the hospital giving birth to our sweet little son, Gordon Eugene Butler. He is doing great and is a a fun little boy, his toothless grin melts my heart every time I see it. We blessed him this month.<br />
<br />
Here are a few pictures of what's been going on. I posted a picture of Becca near the very end of her pregnancy, and some photos of the dressers I put together and stained/varnished.<br />

So what is a pregnant lady to do? Sleep in the only room with an AC unit. I made us late for our appointment because I took a nap and then needed a shower. It was worth the wait!<br />

<br />
<br />
This is Becca. Pregnancy has been going pretty well. I finally am getting some energy and appetite back. I have made almost every dinner this last week or so! I was also able to eat it and not throw up! My belly is getting bigger which surprises me every time I look in the mirror. No funny cravings. I love fruit I crave it all the time. Popsicles, shaved ice, fruit smoothies, and fruit drinks are also really big on my eating list. We have a fridge stocked and we bought a blender to help the cravings. We won't know until July 10th what we are having, but we keep trying to get baby names together.<br />
<br />
Here are photos of my belly bump:(Beware my belly is exposed)<br />

<br />
These last two weeks we have gone to Orem Summer fest. Which is a carnival with rides and great food. There was a sign as soon as you walk up to the ticket booth for rides that said "No pregnant women on rides." So Daniel and I enjoyed the food. We have been able to go swimming which baby really likes. We have also been to another carnival and we went to a kids old time candy/toy store. We have been having a lot of fun when baby lets me, and are excited to spend our summer together instead of long distance.<br />
<br />
Daniel is still working at Actavis pharmaceuticals which has been a wonderful job that he has really enjoyed. We are still looking to move to SLC. Other then that we are doing great!Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-46986875721595947322013-06-16T13:05:00.001-06:002013-06-16T13:05:40.104-06:00Updates on lifeWell things have been going pretty well for Becca and I as of late. We are excited that baby is growing and doing well. We have an ultrasound scheduled for July 10th, and then we will know what we are having. Becca has been doing very well with the pregnancy and hasn't been as nauseous lately.<br />
<br />
Becca and I are still looking to move closer to work. We haven't found any place we like yet, but will plan on moving in early August, or late July.<br />
<br />
Work is going well for me, I'm enjoying what I do and enjoy working with a bunch of nerdy chemists.<br />
<br />
All in all things are going great. The Lord really has blessed me and my wife.Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-56953958840815576952013-05-03T20:13:00.000-06:002013-05-03T20:13:03.467-06:00First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage, Then Comes.......A full time job with benefits!<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, it has been quite a while since I've updated ye olde blog, seeing as how the last post I made was right before Becca and I got married. So here is a quick update on things that have happened in the last little bit, and then we'll get to the good stuff.<br />
<br />
Becca and I were married, it was awesome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LzhaVv5majs/UYRqezDfRLI/AAAAAAAAC9E/N2mKrG9qEhc/s1600/Wedding.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LzhaVv5majs/UYRqezDfRLI/AAAAAAAAC9E/N2mKrG9qEhc/s320/Wedding.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
We spent Christmas with the family in Idaho, braving snow storms on the way up and the way back down.<br />
<br />
Good old jeep got us through them just fine though.<br />
<br />
I took my pretty lady cross country skiing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IKM6QvhzzLI/UYRtQWi2hyI/AAAAAAAAC9c/mUPCY7zHIZw/s1600/IMG_4186.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IKM6QvhzzLI/UYRtQWi2hyI/AAAAAAAAC9c/mUPCY7zHIZw/s320/IMG_4186.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
She did great.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I started a position at a pharmaceutical plant as a temp.<br />
<br />
I missed interviewing at University of Iowa med school due to ice storms at both Salt Lake and Cedar<br />
Rapids. No interview invites from any other schools.<br />
<br />
Becca fulfilled one of her life long dreams of running a Ragnar.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
David left for his mission and Bitsy got her mission call.<br />
<br />
We bought binoculars to go stargazing with. They're pretty neat.<br />
<br />
I got hired full time at the pharmaceutical plant as a quality control Chemist. I test drugs all day with a bunch of nerds, and they pay me moneys, and give me free drugs aka great insurance. Which brings us to.....<br />

Becca is 10 weeks pregnant, working hard all day long at producing a beautiful little peanut inside of my beautiful bride. She has been fighting morning sickness, but is defiantly winning the war. She has some weird food aversions as well, so she isn't winning all the battles.<br />

<u>Becca's Side of the Story.</u><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="p1">
Hello all of Daniel's faithful readers and those who have stumbled to this blog! I still haven't found my blog in case you were wondering, I am sure it's doing well though. I ended the last blog with a few questions. So I think this next story will answer quite a bit of the ones you may be wanting me to answer.</div>
<div class="p1">
Over the summer I have moved to Utah, worked two different jobs, lived out of my car for a little, have gone rock climbing a little, and visited Daniel. Oh yes, and we're engaged. What? oh yes, we are engaged now!! :D ( this smiley is not nearly an adequate substitute to show how happy I am, but it will have to do) I guess that answers the " What does Daniel think about all this?" question I asked. How? You are full of questions aren't you? Okay well if you really want to know here is the story...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dPXRlu_V7z8/UAzsVqjmxGI/AAAAAAAAAyA/a6-gEkYE1ek/s1600/IMG_3365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dPXRlu_V7z8/UAzsVqjmxGI/AAAAAAAAAyA/a6-gEkYE1ek/s320/IMG_3365.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Stardate 07/14/2012<br />
My birthday is on the 15th and Daniel decided to come visit me for my birthday weekend. When I have a birthday I automatically figure that the days surrounding my actual day of entering this world count as celebration time as well. So I was really excited that Daniel would be coming to visit me, because not much of my family could celebrate my birthday with me. Except my older sister Christine, her husband Josef, and their little girl Makayla who also brought my delicious birthday pie which was home made! Plus any time with Daniel just seems to hold a lot of unexpected turns. Well on Friday when he arrived we decided we were going to go for a hike together the next morning. It turned out to be grey and drizzly which is perfect weather for a hike. We woke up a little late that morning and didn't meet for breakfast until around lunch time. We had really good blueberry pancakes that I made. I got to see one of my favorite families who stopped by and celebrated a little birthday fun with me. Finally Daniel and I went on our hike to Battle Creek falls in Pleasant Grove, Utah. We passed a beautiful waterfall and a really beautiful view of the valley from the canyon. We came to a point on the trail where we could see most of the peaks of the mountains and I was struck by how much detail is in everything. The mountains had the clouds touching the top third part. I realized how much love Heavenly Father must have for us to put that much care and detail into the world we live in. He wanted us to look around and always be able to see the love He has for us. Even the very layers of the earth contain a color and beauty. I told Daniel this he looked around and studied everything. I love that about him he really does consider what I am saying he doesn't just agree to pacify me. He held me close for a few seconds and then said he wanted to give me something. He was taking some time to rummage through his backpack so I kept looking at everything when he pulled out a little red box. At first I though it was going to be some joke he was pulling and there would be a keychain or something. Or a medal he promised to make me because I am so awsome. But then he pulled out the box and showed me the sweetest ring it was so clear and bright that right then when the clouds came out it sparkled!!( No joke that really happened) He said" Becca I love you, and I want to be with you always, Will you marry me?" I completely forgot about the ring and was just so happy to hear that that was really what he wanted. So we kissed and then I said..."No.." Which he looked at me with a " Becca this is not the time" look that really set me straight becuase he never looks at me like that. I repentantly kissed him and smiled and said" Yes, I will I'll marry you." The sun was still out through all of this and finally it started to get a little cloudy again. We started to walk down the mountain and he said," I wanted to show you this part because we are going to have a lot of mountains to climb together in our lives and I wanted to show you how beautiful it can be." I know I was quite taken by that too. He can be really clever.<br />
<br />
So then we went to a birthday bar-b-Que for me with some of my dearest friends where I got to sneakily show people my sparkly ring! I loved doing that, because even though Daniel isn't with me and I can't introduce him I can show the ring he gave me to remind me of how much he loves me.<br />
<br />
I love him. I can honestly say that I haven't ever felt this way about anyone and every time we get to talk and be around each other it just grows more and more. All his little quirks all those things that some people may find annoying, I don't care about. Because I choose to let them go and remember the choices lead by the Spirit that brought me to him. I hope all of you are enjoying your time with your eternal families. I hope your all living each day to prepare to be eternal families. I am so happy to be able to share this journey at the beginning of my eternal family.<br />
<br />
Daniel you are everything I need in my life to help me be happy, steadfast, and diligent on my journey in life, I love you.<br />

So, I love this girl. Her name is Rebecca Suzanne Askren.
She is amazing, and is everything that I’ve been looking for. I’m so blessed
that the Lord let me find her, and put us together, and that we both were
willing to work to continue a relationship. I knew pretty early on that I was
in love with her, and that I would do a lot to be with her. I had decided to
drive out and see her memorial day weekend, and that drive was the kicker, I
knew that if I was going to be driving 1500 miles round trip to see her, that I
wanted to pursue a more serious relationship with this wonderfully smart,
attractive, and virtuous young lady. I’m glad she felt the same way, although
we both had doubts about how things were going to work out, we chose to pursue
a relationship, and let things happen however they would, and trusted that the
Lord would help things to work out for the best of both of us. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So fast forward a few weeks, and she is planning to come out
and see me in Colorado for a weekend. I couldn’t have been happier, then I hear
that she got sick the day before she was planning to come, and had been puking
almost the whole day. I was a little depressed, and prepared to drive out there
to see her that weekend if she couldn’t come because she was sick. She started
feeling a lot better though, and so she decided to drive out still, but didn’t
tell me this until she sent me a text saying that Wyoming was brown, flat, and
boring. I was thrilled that she felt I was worth driving all that way to come
and spend time with. We had a lot of fun that weekend flying kites, playing
with Ben’s telescope, listening to the coyotes howl, ad going to the singles
branch here. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The next weekend I was able to see her because I made a stop
on the way out to Idaho for Grandma’s funeral. I had mixed feelings. I was
really excited to see her and spend time with her, but was a little sad that it
was because Grandma Butler had passed away. She was an amazing woman, and I’m
glad Becca got to meet her when I was out there Memorial Day weekend. We had a
lot of fun that weekend, and Becca was a great comfort to me. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After that, and after the spirit telling me again that I
needed to continue to pursue my relationship with Becca, I knew that I wanted
to marry her. I thought that right before her birthday, when I was already
planning on coming out to see her, would be a good time to propose to her. It
would be the last time I would see her before our longest time apart. I wanted
her to have a symbol of my commitment and my love for her. So I started looking
at rings (I had looked some before this as well but now I was really looking).
She told me that her grandmother was going to give her a few rings to choose
from, but I knew that she wouldn’t like any of them and I was still planning on
buying her a ring. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So the week came, and I picked out the ring that I wanted
for her. I felt great about buying it, but it was still a nerve wracking
process going to jewelers and looking at buying an engagement ring. I found an
amazing ring to give to her (sorry I forgot to take pictures of the ring). I
had called her mother that week as well, and told her I loved her daughter and
wanted to propose to her. She was excited to hear me wanting to propose to her
daughter. But back to leaving to propose to the love of my life, I left work
early on Friday and went to the jeweler’s to pick up Becca’s ring. It was
beautiful and I was excited to give it to her. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
I had decided that I would propose on Saturday
morning/afternoon while we were out hiking (Becca had planned that we could go
on a hike that day). So Saturday morning came, and I went to Becca’s. She had
just made blueberry pancakes and they were delicious. We then started talking
about what we were going to do that day, and I kept saying that we should go on
a hike, but it took a little bit to convince her that we should go on the hike.
She found one that was really close, and had a pretty waterfall to go and see.
It was called Battle Creek falls. So we headed out and started up the canyon on
the hike. It was a cloudy day, but it was beautiful. We hiked to the waterfall,
but there were a lot of people there, and I wanted it to be more of a private
intimate setting where I proposed, I also wanted a better view of the mountains
when I proposed. So we kept on hiking until I found a spot where we were alone
and also had a great view of the mountains. I stopped, and told her that I had
something for her, and pulled out the ring from my pack. I then told her that I
loved her, and then asked her to marry me. She was so excited, and started to
kiss me, and then pulled away, and said no (with a mischievous look on her
face), and then said yes. The sun came out right then, and then I told her that
I wanted to propose to her there because we could see the mountains and that we
would have a lot of mountains to climb together. It was wonderful to have
proposed, and to hear her say yes… after teasing me. I love her so much though,
teasing and all. The only thing that could make me happier now is if we weren’t
separated by an 8-hour drive. <o:p></o:p></div>

Well, I figure its about time for me to update my blog myself. Things have been pretty busy since I've moved to Colorado, but things have also been pretty great. I really enjoy my internship. It's a lot of fun going and working on the experiments in lab. I've been creating retroviral vectors to infect cells with certain DNA fragments so that they will express specific proteins. It's pretty interesting and I really enjoy it!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In other news, I got my MCAT scores back. I didn't do quite as well as Edwin did, but I did get a 33, which puts me in about the 90th percentile range. I was pretty happy, especially considering how much I studied (or didn't study). I'm working on finishing everything else for my application right now. I've got most of my letters of recommendation in, and most everything else in as well too. Now I just need to decide what schools I want to apply to. I will be applying to Dartmouth, University of Washington, Baylor, and University of Iowa. I want to apply to 6 more, but I don't know which schools yet. </div>

I made a special trip memorial day weekend to visit Becca. It was great, and well worth the drive to go and see her, I also saw Mom, Dad, and David, but Becca was the main reason I drove back. We spent most all day saturday, sunday, and monday together. Saturday we went bowling, and ate dinner, and talked a lot. Sunday I drove up to Rexburg, visited with her and her mom, and then brought her home for dinner and games. Then Monday we went to Jackson and visited with her sisters there. It was hard to leave on Monday, but it was well worth the time driving to go and see her. We talk on the phone everyday and have skyped a few times as well since I've been back. Things are going well. </div>

This weekend Ben, Shanna, the boys, and Savitri and I spent the night in Denver, and then drove down to Pikes peak and Garden of the Gods. It was really pretty at both places, and well worth the drive. being at the summit of Pikes peak was pretty breathtaking, in more ways than one. It was really easy to get winded being above 14,000 feet. I took quite a few photos with Shanna's DSLR camera. It was really fun to use. Here are some of the photos. </div>

<br />
Hello bloggers of the world!<br />
<br />
I had a blog once but I am not exactly sure what happened to it. I ignored it for a few years and it ran away into cyberspace to find a better blogger who could keep up with it. It seems as though this blog is doing just fine and is quite healthy with loads of information about The Adventures of Daniel!( exclamation point added because I think it helps). Shockingly though Daniel has not been keeping up with all of his marvelous adventures,sad day. Especially when it comes to "The Ladies." He only put one line in his newest update. Don't worry that's were I come in! I am the girl he met at the wedding reception.<br />
<br />
I am not quite sure where to start on my part of the story, but I guess I'll tell you why I was there. I was there to enjoy the food and the celebration of two people being sealed. I was also there because I was the nanny. So I was running around most of the wedding after 4 boys(ages 3-12) all day. Making sure that nobody got blood,vomit,dirt, or holes on any of their clothes. I feel I did my part very well. At the end of the night nobody had beaten each other, or hurt themselves, and they all had eaten good meals. Little did I know until a few dates later that Daniel had been waiting the whole time to talk to me. I am so grateful he got the courage to come talk to me, and in Daniel's normally observant(most of the time) fashion he waited until I wasn't busy with the kids and I was actually sitting down. That was one of my first clues he was a good man, because he knew not to bother me when I was so focused. So we chatted for a few hours and then he finally asked me on a date. I was excited, I finally found someone who would take me rock climbing, and I wanted to go ever since I had been back from my mission. I learned a great lesson though, the lord always has something more prepared for those who are open. So we went on a few dates both knowing he was going to Colorado and I was going to be living in Orem soon. What I didn't expect was just how interesting Daniel would be, and how happy he made me, and how little effort it took for me to be open with him. Our last date before he left we talked(and I really do mean talked) and we decided that it needed to end. I wasn't ready for how sad that would make me, but when we said good-bye that night, and I got one last hug it was like something in my heart and head said "you're sad Becca...that is what you're feeling..you're sad." The next day was annoying as annoying can get. I was trying to do anything to get him out of my head and I would be perfectly distracted for a mili-second and then bam! something about Daniel would come to mind. Like the movie we saw together on our first date, or how silly he looks when his glasses start sliding down his nose, or how respectful and kind he is. So finally after trying to ignore him all day I texted him and asked "If it was as difficult a day for him as it was for me?"...and he said yes! So that is when we decided to take this whole relationship long distance,and I don't regret it. Even when I miss feeling his hand in mine..I don't regret it.<br />
<br />
I had a discussion with an Elder once on my mission about whether or not you could really fall in love or if it was all just lust. How could you learn to do that? Was it even possible? What is the definition of love anyway? And what is the purest kind of love that could last for eternity? I am not sure about all the answers, but I do believe one thing. I think how you fall in love is different for everyone just like how different our answers to prayers can be. Each answer is suited for each person to understand. Luckily we have been given guidance on how we do receive answers, and that it involves both our hearts and mind. It involves happiness, peace, joy, calmness, attached to whatever the answer may be. We won't always be happy with the answer, but if we are truly committed we will be willing to act on whatever the answer is and because the Lord knows our hearts He understands if we are truly committed or not. I was looking to have some fun while praying every night to become prepared to fall in love and be worthy of such a thing. Like I said before the Lord knows when to answer. This has definitely been an adventure and I am looking forward to see where it leads, no matter where that is. So what do you all think? What does Daniel think? Hmmm those are good questions, but I am happy enough knowing what I think,and that answer will have to be in a later blog.<br />
<br />
Sincerely,<br />
Becca<br />

So I'll just highlight a few of my recent adventures, and upload some pictures.
I survived my last semester at BYU-I. It was a little bittersweet to leave, but I survived taking 10 credits of chemistry, and only got one B, the rest were all A's this semester. I did have to stay up almost all night taking a take home test, that was due the day of commencement and convocation, as well as take the ACS standardized final for physical chemistry that day. It made for a long day, and sadly I fell asleep during commencement. Graduation was great though, Elder Ballard came and spoke at both commencement and the convocation for the college of physical sciences.
After graduation came studying for the MCAT, as well as Brent's wedding. It was great to go and see Brent and Madi sealed in the Rexburg temple. I also had a fun time catching up with Jaxon and Levi and their wives since I haven't seen them much since they got married. I also met a girl at the reception, but thats a story for another blog post.
Another exciting thing is I sold my old jeep, and bought another cherokee. This one runs much nicer, is manual, and actually survived the drive to colorado. Which is the other exciting thing that has happened recently, I am now in colorado, after a two day trek to make it here. I drove to Salt Lake and spent the night at Parker and Carly Chapple's. It was great visiting with them, and splitting my drive up. I also saw two other friends while I was in the area.
Well, that about sums things up. I am studying for the MCAT all day everyday this week, I take it on Saturday, so I'll see how that goes, expect a post in the near future.

It lets me think through whats going on, and keep a journal of sorts. Life is grand, its been a crazy last semester, but its working out alright so far. I am enjoying most all of my classes. I really like my introduction to literature class. Its been an excellent diversion from my 10 credits of chemistry. My FA 100 class has also been interesting. I've enjoyed most of the events that I've attended so far, its been helpful that I've attended most of them with a good friend, Tess. I've had a lot to do with my chem classes. I'm starting work on my independent labs, in one of them I'm going to determine the amount of nitrite in lunch meat, in the other I'm working on a complicated synthesis of a compound for my professor. They should both be pretty interesting. I may be presenting my research in a research and creative works conference at the end of the semester. I'm still trying to decide wether or not I will do that.
I've kept up the trend of going cross country skiing. I've gone the last 4 weekends in a row, all to different places. I went to Grand Teton National Park for one of them, and I also went to Harriman state park with one of my chem professors, and I also went to Mesa Falls and skied all the way to the upper falls with Tess. It made for a great way to relax on the weekends, as well as get some good exercise, skiing about 10 miles most of the days I went. I'm sad there hasn't been more snow in Rexburg, otherwise I would have headed out and skied most days after classes. Its been great to get out on the weekends though.

I guess I should also say that I found my internship. I'll be going to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and working at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. I'll be doing research on developing an assay to test for the presence of T-cells that are attacking the hosts insulin producing cells. I'll be learning a lot of molecular biology techniques and am excited to go and work there. I'll be starting my internship mid may, right after I take the MCAT.Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-62255118146982008322012-01-30T02:16:00.003-07:002012-01-30T02:25:39.487-07:00Stress Relievers<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_NnIx3qtU24/TyZgdlEzTvI/AAAAAAAAAnA/6Gg36o033GQ/s1600/IMG_2946.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_NnIx3qtU24/TyZgdlEzTvI/AAAAAAAAAnA/6Gg36o033GQ/s320/IMG_2946.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703352039396036338" /></a><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JKIV20r8t9E/TyZgdbwgrvI/AAAAAAAAAm0/HUOh1PNoswE/s1600/IMG_2914.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JKIV20r8t9E/TyZgdbwgrvI/AAAAAAAAAm0/HUOh1PNoswE/s320/IMG_2914.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703352036895010546" /></a><br />This last semester is proving to be a stressful one. I spend 12+ hours a day monday through friday doing homework or going to class, then I have to cut into my weekends to try and get everything else done that I normally have to do during the week. It is a lot of homework and assignments. I guess thats what I get for being a senior chemistry major, and taking 10 credits of chemistry in one semester, its going to be an intense semester. I do make sure I have time for fun though :) This week I had a friend over on wednesday for dinner and just to relax and catch up on our crazy lives. Both her and I are very busy this semester. Friday I had a lot of fun going to the climbing gym with a girl. It was a very nice stress reliever, and made me realize how much I missed climbing. I was sad that I only made it climbing on real rock about 2 times this last summer. I did get to make it to twenty plus states though, as well as kayak quite a bit. So it had its trade offs. On Saturday Aaron wanted to go hike some places and go skiing. I went with him, but took some cross country skis. It made for a good Saturday afternoon/night. I am a little sore from it, but will definitely go again. I also tried his downhill skis. They were fun, I want to try downhill skiing on a real slope. Maybe some weekend I'll find time for that... I'm also hoping I'll be able to go on a winter backpacking trip this winter. I'll see how it goes with school. <br /><br />I am trying to get an internship in Colorado, and I'm also working on an application for an internship in Taiwan. I hope I can find a good internship that I'll enjoy.Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-44493777004752760012012-01-04T23:09:00.003-07:002012-01-04T23:27:53.341-07:00A new Semester, the last to be specific<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i6g0NH1Z-CM/TwVCnMHkb8I/AAAAAAAAAmc/_kqCDsGs438/s1600/DSCF0380.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i6g0NH1Z-CM/TwVCnMHkb8I/AAAAAAAAAmc/_kqCDsGs438/s320/DSCF0380.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694030544915165122" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ajB829nPob0/TwVCm4f5gXI/AAAAAAAAAmQ/Li0O6jvJgSc/s1600/DSCF0392.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ajB829nPob0/TwVCm4f5gXI/AAAAAAAAAmQ/Li0O6jvJgSc/s320/DSCF0392.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694030539648500082" /></a><br />Well, I've been pretty lax on updating my blog lately. I haven't done much on it for over a month, so I figured its high time I finish updating it, and get going with keeping it updated. I finished last semester, I got a B+ in p chem, which isn't too shabby, I was a little disappointed though, I was .06% away from getting an A- but such goes life. I got an A- in my technical writing class as well, but its over with. The rest were A's. I still have a really good GPA so I don't particularly care. The break was a good break, I didn't work on fixing my jeep, which just hasn't been the same since I flooded it last march (learned my lesson there), I think I'll be looking at buying a new car when I graduate, which will be at the end of this semester (pretty crazy!). I'm still working on getting an internship, and have a goal to spend time studying for the MCAT everyday (I need to get working hard on it!). Its going to be busy this semester though, I have 10 credits of chemistry, spending 12 hours in the lab every week, and still trying to keep up a social life as well as keep grades up. I don't know how things are going with the ladyfolk lately. I still try and go on a date once a week, but its slowed down some. There is a girl I'm interested in, but I don't know quite how she feels. Anyways, thats about it, I don't know what pictures to put up, I didn't take many during the break, but I guess I have some of me and my nieces Katelynn and Claire (at least I know those girls like me :)).Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-56096167330316565562011-11-06T18:20:00.005-07:002011-11-07T18:03:26.553-07:00Commitment<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K6M-G3kBrUU/Trc2wjcrTPI/AAAAAAAAAlU/o_yvUe4hBZI/s1600/Photo%2Bon%2B2011-11-01%2Bat%2B22.41.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K6M-G3kBrUU/Trc2wjcrTPI/AAAAAAAAAlU/o_yvUe4hBZI/s320/Photo%2Bon%2B2011-11-01%2Bat%2B22.41.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672062463473569010" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G3TmePbuHcs/Trc2wu5IQHI/AAAAAAAAAlM/LMFkl2U0cMs/s1600/432commitment05.jpeg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 207px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G3TmePbuHcs/Trc2wu5IQHI/AAAAAAAAAlM/LMFkl2U0cMs/s320/432commitment05.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672062466545696882" /></a><br />No this post has nothing to do with me finding a significant other, more of just my commitment to myself and the future. <br /><br />Lately I've been thinking a lot about commitment and what it means to me. I have always liked to make informed decisions and know that what I'm choosing is the right thing for me. It took me a long time to decide that med school was the route that I wanted to take. Although it is a hard route to take, It feels like that is what I should do with my life. I have found that the harder something is, the more rewarding it is to achieve it. The more I have to stretch and grow the better things will be. That is partly why I enjoy rock climbing, and why I am a chemistry major. I enjoy the outdoors and would have loved to have taken a different route through college, a route that would have been much easier, but I felt like it would not have been a good application of my mind, it would have been too easy I guess. I live to have commitments. <br /><br />As part of being committed, I realize that I've made the commitment to go to med school. I need to make choices according to that. I need to fully commit myself and put forth the necessary effort. Commitment is essential in exercising the agency that I have given to me. Commitment is also essential in relationships, but that is another story.Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-90192998893459021412011-10-22T18:57:00.003-06:002011-10-22T19:28:08.551-06:00Life is an Adventure<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AcOaoK9c4GA/TqNowDUHTvI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/6XCsypIxVnE/s1600/IMG_2682.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AcOaoK9c4GA/TqNowDUHTvI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/6XCsypIxVnE/s320/IMG_2682.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666487930894896882" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t2TPn0pLmVo/TqNouyxuQZI/AAAAAAAAAhI/vOVq1B55bAs/s1600/IMG_2646.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t2TPn0pLmVo/TqNouyxuQZI/AAAAAAAAAhI/vOVq1B55bAs/s320/IMG_2646.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666487909275812242" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dD747lOBPcE/TqNouawdGwI/AAAAAAAAAg4/DCql4jIQjqE/s1600/IMG_2634.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dD747lOBPcE/TqNouawdGwI/AAAAAAAAAg4/DCql4jIQjqE/s320/IMG_2634.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666487902828043010" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uK4Q2erwjuM/TqNot7-_NDI/AAAAAAAAAgs/4rjUV0dMTpY/s1600/IMG_2212.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uK4Q2erwjuM/TqNot7-_NDI/AAAAAAAAAgs/4rjUV0dMTpY/s320/IMG_2212.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666487894567498802" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uyi_Hxubza0/TqNot5hrX8I/AAAAAAAAAgg/h7fECBa1dcI/s1600/IMG_0415.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uyi_Hxubza0/TqNot5hrX8I/AAAAAAAAAgg/h7fECBa1dcI/s320/IMG_0415.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666487893907693506" /></a><br />Its amazing the twists and turns that life can take you through. I wouldn't live without it though. Some of the most recent ones have been:<br /><br />I put another team together for the temple to temple relay. It was a lot of fun. We packed all of us into my old roommate Marshall's 4runner and took off to run to the temple. It was a lot of fun, and I did get quite a bit of sun that day. <br /><br />Another recent adventure has just been trying to survive my ridiculous life, particularly my class schedule. I'm not taking too many credits this semester, but I'm also working, and trying to have a social life at the same time. Dating can be pretty crazy sometimes, full of its own adventures, and trying to figure things out, all while having fun at the same time. You'd think with how many dates I normally go on, that I'd be a lot better at this than I am. But such is life. <br /><br />Last week, I also went home and went hunting with Dad and David. It was fun hiking in the woods with Dad, and building a sling out of dad's shoelaces and the leather patch from the back of David's pants. We also had quite the time trying to navigate cliffs to get back down to the truck. But alls well that ends well. <br /><br />Today I had planned on going mountain biking with my roommate Jon. We went and it was a much needed relaxing day in the mountains. It was good getting out and seeing the beautiful fall colors. I'd driven out there last saturday night, but had missed seeing the scenery. <br /><br />This week I also submitted a grad plan, and I will be walking in april, and then finishing my degree by completing an internship. Its kind of stressful, since I'll have to take 10 credits of chemistry, and then figure out what I want to do with my life for the next year before I start med school. I've recently purchased MCAT test prep books as well, and that is taking up my spare time. its an interesting point in my life, full of a lot of decision making. wish me luckDanielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-10221132394752021602011-10-02T14:45:00.004-06:002011-10-02T15:09:19.107-06:00Ship Island Lake with Dad<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XnWNAR0_wSc/TojSwysZbZI/AAAAAAAAAgY/INu-MPlC6y8/s1600/IMG_2517.JPG"><img style="float:left; He told me that he had wanted to go there since he was 15 years old, so I'm glad that we were able to make it there. We left thursday morning and made the 5 hour trek to the trailhead. We got to the trailhead around 2 pm and started heading up the trail. It was full of gorgeous views the whole time we were hiking. It was an intense hike as well, since we were following the ridge line of mountains the whole way, full of up and down. We hiked all the way to Wilson lake where we set up camp and cooked dinner. <br /><br />The next day we went down fish fin pass, which had literally been cut and blasted out of the rock and followed the trail to get to ship island lake. It was a long day hike in, but well worth seeing the large granite monoliths that were at the outlet of the lake. Dad also packed a spinning reel up to the lake, and we caught all kinds of trout, rainbow, golden, cutthroat, and hybrids of all of the above. <br /><br />We then hiked back to our base camp at wilson lake and headed back to the truck. We ended up hiking about a total of 24 miles in the three days we were out hiking. with most likely at least 6,000 feet of vertical gain thanks to all of the up and down we did on that hike. It was a good time spent with Dad, and I'd love to go back and spend about 4 or 5 days back in the mountains!Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-29446014606590272322011-10-02T14:22:00.003-06:002011-10-02T14:35:26.178-06:00New England Pictures<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cAznkAWzjc8/TojK3AtQDMI/AAAAAAAAAew/28jdgM1Cyu0/s1600/IMG_2246.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cAznkAWzjc8/TojK3AtQDMI/AAAAAAAAAew/28jdgM1Cyu0/s320/IMG_2246.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658995978222439618" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k0V47gMnNKg/TojK2_pFTBI/AAAAAAAAAeo/m9Y0A_-P70g/s1600/IMG_2059.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k0V47gMnNKg/TojK2_pFTBI/AAAAAAAAAeo/m9Y0A_-P70g/s320/IMG_2059.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658995977936522258" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-92-sXUG3VlE/TojK2exh9MI/AAAAAAAAAeg/LieaEa1J85A/s1600/IMG_2044.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-92-sXUG3VlE/TojK2exh9MI/AAAAAAAAAeg/LieaEa1J85A/s320/IMG_2044.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658995969113584834" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TIZm4_9yok0/TojK2O9Kk4I/AAAAAAAAAeY/QYrzfuvQNlQ/s1600/IMG_2036.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TIZm4_9yok0/TojK2O9Kk4I/AAAAAAAAAeY/QYrzfuvQNlQ/s320/IMG_2036.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658995964867416962" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fO7tmbzuSN0/TojJkNV7xPI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/TLQxiRlS2vw/s1600/IMG_1999.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fO7tmbzuSN0/TojJkNV7xPI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/TLQxiRlS2vw/s320/IMG_1999.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658994555685160178" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ruqqUXyWdF0/TojJjiwUj1I/AAAAAAAAAeI/kNUYski3zFE/s1600/IMG_1948.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ruqqUXyWdF0/TojJjiwUj1I/AAAAAAAAAeI/kNUYski3zFE/s320/IMG_1948.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658994544253112146" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MOyPTW1u8mc/TojJjQ_qCUI/AAAAAAAAAeA/JBJED0XU7FY/s1600/IMG_1942.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MOyPTW1u8mc/TojJjQ_qCUI/AAAAAAAAAeA/JBJED0XU7FY/s320/IMG_1942.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658994539485595970" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4JSb1Vi_KQ4/TojJjE3JaUI/AAAAAAAAAd4/YdwJXcgCRyU/s1600/IMG_1941.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4JSb1Vi_KQ4/TojJjE3JaUI/AAAAAAAAAd4/YdwJXcgCRyU/s320/IMG_1941.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658994536228677954" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M-HCpTVQfo0/TojJilr6kiI/AAAAAAAAAdw/DOc4YeWpZgU/s1600/IMG_1881.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M-HCpTVQfo0/TojJilr6kiI/AAAAAAAAAdw/DOc4YeWpZgU/s320/IMG_1881.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5658994527860068898" /></a><br />here are some pictures from when I was in New England, I've been pretty busy since I've gotten back, with school starting and with all that that brings. <br />Well, after finishing up the two weeks of work in utah, we took off on an airplane to fly across the country again, this time we were headed to hartford connecticut. The flight there was pretty interesting, we were delayed taking off from the Washington Dolles airport due to inclement weather in the Boston airspace, so we waited thirty minutes to take off, and then we departed. We then flew to Hartford, but the lightning storm had moved from Boston and was right on the Airport landing area, so we circled and circled until we didn't have enough fuel and we had to go to Providence Rhode Island to land and refuel and then take off and fly back again. The stewardess on the plane was really nice though and the delays didn't bug me one bit.
<br />
<br />The Connecticut Site we worked at was really pretty, the first day there we had a local who owned 30 acres adjacent to the refuge property drive us around the old roads to familiarize ourselves with what we were working with. We had 7 of us riding around in an old jeep willys. The area was really beautiful with all of the trees and the brook running through it. It was a small refuge though, with only about 285 acres that we had to map, so we finished mapping it in a day and a half and decided that we should take off to check out Boston.
<br />
<br />We walked the freedom trail in Boston and it was neat to see all of the old buildings where a lot of American History took place. I enjoyed going to Boston. <br />Well, after finishing up mapping weeds in Kansas, I took off for Utah for two weeks of mapping weeds out there. We worked near Strawberry Reservoir, and also by Mt. Nebo and mapped trails for the forest service there. It was a nice two weeks where I didn't have to fly anywhere, and where we could just drive to work, and were out in the mountains instead of flat kansas! It was pretty and there weren't many weeds to find anywhere. I also got to hike almost to the top of Mt. Nebo, I went until there weren't anymore plants growing and then called it good. I also managed to get a flat tire on a gravel road, I was grateful it didn't happen on the road I took the truck down the day before that. I came down from Mt. Nebo on a gravel road that was only 6 miles out, instead of taking 30 miles of pavement. It saved some time, but was pretty hairy in spots, some three point turns were required on some of the switchbacks, but alls well that ends well! It was a fun time working in Utah. REAL hot here. 110 some days, and its pretty flat. I did make a trip to Missouri this last weekend, and we also took the sister missionaries out to dinner, and then went tracting with them in a small subdivision in Yoder, Kansas. It was pretty neat and brought back a lot of memories. Dillon and I set up an appointment with a family for the sisters to come back and teach. Hopefully all goes well with that. And thats about it for now. I had a lot of fun at the family reunion, and was only sore for a couple days after the run, a couple meaning two. <br /><br />oh, the clouds are really great in Kansas, and lightning storms here are fun to watch. I had no idea what to expect coming here, but I've come to really enjoy it here. I've been working hard at mapping noxious and invasive species of weeds here on the refuge, and have been enjoying myself whenever I haven't been working. I've discovered that the beach is the best place to be when its 90+ degrees and humid and that it makes for a very good break after wading through thick vegetation all day. Luckily quite a bit of what we've worked on mapping here has been in the farm fields and along canals and ditch lines, as well as on river banks. After finishing most all of the farm fields here we took canoes and canoed the creek here to map alligatorweed, so it was a nice break from hiking through the fields. <br /><br />The beach has been fun after work, I've enjoyed wading out and playing in the waves, and tried body boarding, although it is rather challenging. I bought a kite and have enjoyed flying it on the beach. We went to a kite festival that was here as well, there was a kite the size and shape of a blue whale! it was pretty amazing to look at. We also drove down the outer banks and took a ferry out to an island called Ocracoke Island. It had the best beach I've been to so far. <br /><br />This weekend after working our 40 hours, we drove up to Washington DC to check out our nations capitol. I saw the constitution and the declaration of independence, and toured around several museums and art galleries as well as seeing capitol hill. I also made a trip to the DC temple, it looks like a fortress and is really beautiful inside. <br /><br />Its been pretty fun being out here in North Carolina staying in a beach house, and I would definitely come back to the East Coast again.Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1537020761163916388.post-70195640242559884232011-06-12T18:00:00.001-06:002011-07-12T21:32:19.450-06:00Moab and Such<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eweZ9rInuvE/Th0Q7n4ohOI/AAAAAAAAAaQ/52kdJ0a-Kf4/s1600/IMG_0598.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eweZ9rInuvE/Th0Q7n4ohOI/AAAAAAAAAaQ/52kdJ0a-Kf4/s320/IMG_0598.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628673725787833570" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nEQwU_H9TXA/Th0Q6wPmU5I/AAAAAAAAAaI/mWp8-Ha2yMo/s1600/IMG_0522.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nEQwU_H9TXA/Th0Q6wPmU5I/AAAAAAAAAaI/mWp8-Ha2yMo/s320/IMG_0522.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628673710851773330" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y1f533XoSYg/Th0Q6RDGPWI/AAAAAAAAAaA/ERvoTL257d4/s1600/IMG_0455.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y1f533XoSYg/Th0Q6RDGPWI/AAAAAAAAAaA/ERvoTL257d4/s320/IMG_0455.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628673702477839714" /></a><br />Southern Utah<br /><br />During the two weeks I had training in Logan, there was also Memorial Day weekend. Aaron Harker and I had planned on going to southern Utah for the weekend. We met up with Aaron in Brigham City and then drove the rest of the way to Moab that night. We slept on a tarp and our pads just on the side of a gravel road that led to the Mountain Biking trail we did the next morning. It was a really fun trail, which was about 4.5 miles one way over quite a bit of slickrock to Arches National Park boundary where we went on a short hike back to see a place called Klondike Bluffs. After that we went and found what looked like a nice place to go on a short hike to a swimming hole, unfortunately a few hundred other people had the same idea, so it was pretty crowded, but it still felt great to cool off by jumping off the top of a waterfall to a small pool at the bottom. <br /> <br />One of the things we wanted to do while we were down there was hike through a slot canyon. We found one that sounded pretty fun called Horse Play Canyon, it didn’t require any ropes and said that water was avoidable. It was over by Hanksville, Utah. We spent the night in my tent there, getting blasted by sand because of how windy it was. We also found a scorpion under my tent when we packed it up. We went to church there that morning, and then found the canyon we were going to hike. It was about 30 miles out in the middle of the desert. The canyon was pretty darn narrow in places, and quite a tight fit even for me. We made it through just fine though, although we were really sand blasted by the end since the wind was gusting up to 50 mph. We decided to avoid the sand that night to sleep in the car in the church parking lot. We then woke up the next morning and drove back home. It was a great adventure!Danielhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05404674299030601397noreply@blogger.com1
